Star Donor Charity Solutions (Star Donor) was founded in 1999 in an effort to provide support for the nonprofit charitable organizations who were finding it particularly difficult to find support dollars to help them keep working. By providing this vehicle which allows charities to take secure online donations on their own websites while allowing others to promote donation-giving to participant organizations in this program, we are hoping that by working together we will help charities meet success and continuity.
How it works
Star Donor is an integrated secure transaction engine provided to process online donations. Approved charities are provided with a personal donation page and a coded link to that page which they can place on their own website. When someone clicks on their donation link, a secure transaction window will open so that they can submit their donation to that charity. The entire process is done seamlessly without advertising or overburdened branding.
Additionally, website visitors to the Star Donor website may choose charities to donate to as they wish. We continue to promote Star Donor in all of our outreach programs.
Our History
In 1999, the program was founded by Hugs for Homeless Animals (H4HA), a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Part of H4HA's mission is to provide programs and services to nonprofits so that they are better able to do their work to make the world a better place. The Star Donor service program was one of those programs. Star Donor meets the ePhilanthropy Code of Ethical Online Philanthropic Practices.
In 2008, it was determined that the management and associated costs of the program were becoming burdensome for H4HA so it was decided to secure a more targeted vehicle to takeover its management. It was important to us that the heart of the program remain central to the program.
In 2009, Star Donor was incorporated. As its own entity, Star Donor is now in a better position to move forward with its plans to make better this already great program.
How to become a Participating Charity
Nonprofit organizations are welcome to participate in the program. The 501(c)3 requirement has been loosened to now include organizations who have not yet submitted their nonprofit application but who are actively working as a charitable organization. A Federal ID Number (EIN) is required for participation. If you do not have an EIN, you can download the application form on the Charity Signup page.
